MMT advanced oxidation evaluation

An Evidence-Led Advanced Oxidation Assessment

MMT proposes to assess whether its historical patent-derived advanced oxidation technology and contemporary ozone-generation, mass-transfer and reactor equipment could enhance selected water-treatment applications. AOP is not a substitute for all minewater treatments, and no Ekati-specific removal efficiencies or savings are claimed at this stage.

Screening

Scope and limits

Potential targets

Screening categories

Certain susceptible dissolved organic compounds; disinfection where relevant; iron/manganese oxidation when supported by speciation and filtration; selected odour/colour constituents. These are screening categories, not site-specific findings.

Separate controls required

Beyond ozone alone

Nitrates/ammonia, chloride/sulfate, total dissolved solids and fine particulate kimberlite generally require other treatment technologies. Ozone alone does not remove dissolved salts or suspended solids. Cold-water kinetics, off-gas management, energy use, bromide/bromate risk and aquatic-life compatibility are mandatory design considerations.

Performance gates

Proposed evaluation stages

01

Desktop screening

Identify candidate streams and regulatory objectives from measured data.

02

Bench-scale treatability

Compare control, conventional treatment and AOP-assisted pathways at relevant temperatures.

03

Independent pilot

If justified, test a modular plant against agreed operational and water-quality metrics.

04

Commercial decision

Scale only if accredited data demonstrate compliance, lower whole-life treatment costs and an acceptable environmental risk profile.
